What is the Legal Gambling Age in MN
Sports Betting
Sports fans in the state that have reached the Minnesota gambling age of 18 have been waiting passionately for the legalization of sports betting in the past few years, and another attempt for this was made early in 2023, but for now, sports betting is not allowed in the state.
Casinos
Minnesota does not allow commercial casinos. Therefore, only native tribes can operate casinos and there are currently 19 casino houses in the state. The legal gambling age in Minnesota for casino games is a minimum of 18 or 21, depending on each separate casino’s rules.
Online casino gambling is still illegal.
Poker
Tribal casinos on the territory of the state do offer poker rooms officially. Access is for those 21 and older.
Online poker is still illegal although the law is a bit vague about this game. The law prohibits keeping track of the cards used in a game and this is what poker software is about. So, online poker games are not allowed by Minnesota but some people still find options for playing poker online.
Fantasy Sports
Minnesota is one of the few states that have not made daily fantasy sports legal for its residents but people are not persecuted for playing. Minors who are younger than 18 will not be able to register an account though.
Lottery
The Minnesota State Lottery offers real cash prizes, so access is only for 18-year-olds. Games that are offered include Powerball, Mega Millions, Northstar Cash, Lotto America, Chopper 5, and Daily 3.
Bingo
While the minimum gambling age in MN is 18, people under 18 can play paper bingo only if accompanied by a parent or a guardian and if this is an annual event of a charity initiative. In other cases, only those who are 18 and older can play bingo.
Horse Racing
There are currently two horse racing tracks in the state and pari-mutuel wagering on horses is allowed for anyone who is 18 and older.
