What is the Legal Gambling Age in GA
Sports Betting
Neither in-person nor online sports betting is allowed in Georgia. The local government offered to legalize sports betting at the beginning of 2023 but the effort was fruitless and no real change was achieved by the end of the 2023 legislative session. Therefore, no facility in the state accepts bets on sports, and any site that offers this activity operates illegally and can be blocked at any moment. And even illegally active sites do not accept players that have not reached the Georgia gambling age of 18.
Casinos
At the time of writing, no land-based commercial or tribal casinos are available in Georgia. Commercial casinos are banned, and tribes are absent because there are no federally recognized tribes based in the state. As a result, people who reached the legal age for gambling in Georgia which is 18 can play casino games only on cruise ships.
The local laws are very clear about online casinos, too, as these are prohibited. Social casinos are available on mobile apps, but they are hardly regulated, especially in terms of access to minors.
Poker
Due to the fact that there are no legit land-based casinos in the state, live poker rooms are also impossible. The situation with at-home poker parties is unclear. Online poker is neither legally allowed nor is it straightforwardly prohibited, which means some people can still find platforms to play online poker for real money. They have to be of the right age, however, because minors will not be allowed to create an account.
Fantasy Sports
Interestingly enough, Daily Fantasy Sports are legal, regulated, and officially allowed for people who are 18 and older.
Lottery
There is a state lottery that allows individuals 18 years of age and older to buy tickets and win real money prizes. Online lotteries are unavailable.
Bingo
Bingo is one of the very few forms of gambling that are directly allowed by the state. Anyone reaching the gambling age in GA can participate. Only certain organizations are entitled to run events that include Bingo games or run Bingo halls. There are recreational Bingo games where players do not pay a participation fee and non-recreational Bingo where a fee is required. Organizations that run recreational Bingo do not need a license for this. Non-recreational Bingo suggests higher cash prizes, therefore the organization needs a license and must pay taxes.
Horse Racing
Horse races are legal and take place in Georgia, and people can visit, but bets are not allowed. No site or facility accepts bets on horses legally.
